The ASEAN-Korea Centre launches a monthly magazine, ASEAN Talks

- Latest information and analysis on ASEAN-Korea relations to be published every month -

Seoul, Korea -The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Acting Secretary General Jang Yeunju Jessy) launched a monthly magazine, ASEAN Talks on 28 March 2018. Amid the growing significance of ASEAN-Korea partnership with the Korean government’s “New Southern Policy”, the magazine will offer in-depth analyses of ASEAN and its individual Member States by program officers at the Centre who take charge of ASEAN-Korea cooperation projects in a broad range of areas. Starting its first issue in March, ASEAN Talks will be published on a monthly basis and available on the official website (http://www.aseankorea.org), social media platforms, and newsletter of the ASEAN-Korea Centre.

Jang Yeunju Jessy, Acting Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that, “As the Korean government intensifies its efforts on deepening its cooperation ASEAN countries, the demand for more professional reports on ASEAN and ASEAN-Korea relations has skyrocketed. To contribute to meeting this demand, the Centre launched the ASEAN Talks, a publication containing analyses and insights on broad range of topics under the umbrella of ASEAN-Korea cooperation. Contributors of the magazine are none other than the program officers of the Centre, who have the knowledge and extensive experience in carrying out trade and investment, culture and tourism, as well as awareness-raising and exchange programs in the 10 ASEAN Member States. I hope this magazine would serve as a guidebook for a closer tie between ASEAN and Korea.”

“Invest in Myanmar, El Dorado?”, the first issue of ASEAN Talks, navigates through underlying opportunities in Myanmar amid business hurdles encountered by foreign investors. An Jin-hun, Senior Officer at the Trade and Investment Unit, wrote this report based upon his own observation and meetings with government officials and Korean businessmen in Myanmar during the Investment and Market Research Mission held in the country last February. Although some challenges remain to be addressed, the author argues that various reforms including the new investment law and the new Myanmar Companies Law (MCL) are expected to unlock the full potential of the country. He also contends that Korean investors should have the right strategies based on the up-to-date information on current development in Myanmar and success cases of Korean businesses entering the country.

Reports on the following topics are scheduled to be published in the next months: Korea’s perception on ASEAN: Big Data Analysis and Korean media’s coverage on ASEAN in 2017.
