ASEAN-Korea Centre is an International Organization mandated to promote economic and socio-cultural cooperation between ASEAN Member States and Korea.

ASEAN-Korea Centre publishes “Partnering for Tomorrow: ASEAN-Korea relations”

- A publication on the ASEAN-Korea partnership recently released -

Seoul, Korea - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Young-sun) recently published a book entitled Partnering for Tomorrow: ASEAN-Korea Relations in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN and the ASEAN-ROK Cultural Exchange Year. This publication is a compilation of the researches presented and discussions shared at the International Conference on ASEAN-Korea Partnership held last August in Seoul, Korea. The Conference reviewed the last 50 years of ASEAN’s development and provided prospects for the future of the ASEAN-ROK partnership.

The book covers all three pillars of ASEAN-Korea cooperation – political and security, economic, and socio-cultural – and highlights that for a sustainable partnership, a solid foundation of socio-cultural cooperation at the people-level should be developed. At the 19th ASEAN-ROK Summit in November, the book was presented to the leaders of ASEAN and Korea. In the Chairman’s Statement of the Summit, the leaders of ASEAN and Korea appreciated the Conference as well as the ASEAN-Korea Centre for its continued contributions to the ASEAN-Korea partnership.

Secretary General Kim Young-sun of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that, “I hope the book provides various insights on the development of ASEAN over the last five decades, how the ASEAN-Korea relations prospered since the dialogue partnership officially began in 1989, and the direction the ASEAN-Korea partnership should take in the decades to come. With the recent announcement of the Korean government to bring Korea’s relations with ASEAN equivalent to the level of those with the four major power, suggestions put forward by renowned scholars and policy makers will serve as a valuable guide book for the bright future of the ASEAN-Korea partnership.”

Besides this meaningful book, the ASEAN-Korea Centre has also published books on a wide range of topics related to ASEAN to enable a better understanding of the region among the ASEAN and Korean public. Its recent two publications delve into the perspectives of the ASEAN and Korean youth. Firstly, the book entitled The Future of ASEAN-Korea Partnership Vol. 2 includes winning entries of the 2nd ASEAN-Korea Academic Essay Contest, which touched upon the following themes: (1) 50 Years of ASEAN and the Prospect for Multilateralism; (2) ASEAN-Korea 4.0: Adapting Digital Economy; (3) ASEAN-Korea Education Cooperation for Cultural Understanding; and (4) Champions of the ASEAN Miracle. The second book entitled Mutual Perceptions of ASEAN and Korean Youth presents the results of the research on mutual perceptions of the ASEAN and Korean youth. The research was jointly conducted by the ASEAN-Korea Centre and the Korea Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (KISEAS).

All the publications of the ASEAN-Korea Centre are available at the ASEAN Hall of the Centre. For any further inquiries, please contact: info@aseankorea.org
