Seoul, Korea - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Young-sun) will organize the 5th ASEAN Connectivity Forum together with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on 29-30 November in Seoul, Korea. The Forum has been annually organized since 2013 to keep Korean business communities abreast of the connectivity-related infrastructure projects in the 10 ASEAN Member States, thus contributing to connected and integrated ASEAN as well as mutually beneficial partnership between ASEAN and Korea.

Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that, “The ASEAN Connectivity Forum has served as an important platform for ASEAN-Korea cooperation, specifically in the area of ASEAN connectivity. This year’s Forum is even more timely especially now that Korean President Moon Jae-in vowed to level up the relationship with ASEAN in a vast range of areas with a particular emphasis on the infrastructure sectors to contribute toward enhanced connectivity in ASEAN. Considering the increasing attention from the Korean business community, the Forum is anticipated to open a new era of cooperation for ASEAN and Korea to realize the ASEAN-ROK Future Community Vision recently unveiled by the Korean government.”

At the Opening Ceremony on 29 October, the Secretary General Kim Young-sun and the Executive Vice-president of the KCCI Kim Joon-dong, as well Bambang Brodjonegoro, Minister of the National Development Planning of Indonesia, Son Byeong-suk, Vice Minister of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the ROK, and Yoon Soon-ku, Deputy Minister for Political Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the ROK will deliver remarks. Also, Elizabeth P. Buensuceso, Chair of the ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee (ACCC) will give a keynote speech to introduce the key elements of and progress on the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC) 2025.

The Forum is composed of three sessions. The first session will offer a comprehensive overview on financing and procurement for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects in ASEAN by multilateral development banks including the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Export-Import Bank of Korea, and the Macquarie Korea, a private company which provides various financial services for the business community. In the following session, government officials and experts from the 10 ASEAN Member States will present up-to-date information on key connectivity-related projects in the sectors of transportation, energy, and ICT in their respective countries. The third session, which is to be held on the following day, will allow Korean investors to enhance network for future business collaborations with government and business representatives as well as international banks through business meetings.

The ASEAN-Korea Centre has played a key role in enhancing ASEAN-Korea cooperation in the area of ASEAN connectivity through the annual ASEAN Connectivity Forum. In the Chairman’s Statement of the 19th ASEAN-ROK Summit, the leaders welcomed the continued contribution of the ASEAN-Korea Centre for its organization of the annual Forum to facilitate business opportunities and enhance Public-Private Partnerships in connectivity projects as well as its hosting of the 5th ASEAN Connectivity Forum. Moreover, the Centre is the only organization in Korea that has a Task Force devoted only to ASEAN connectivity. The TF collects the information on ASEAN connectivity projects, builds up database, and provides the information to Korean business communities through workshops, seminars, and forum.
