Workshop to equip Bruneian food MSMEs with smart technologies

- ASEAN-Korea Centre to organize the Trade Facilitation Workshop for Brunei MSMEs (19 July, Bandar Seri Begawan) -

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Young-sun) will organize the Trade Facilitation Workshop for Brunei MSMEs, entitled ‘Enhancing Competitiveness of Brunei Food Products & Packaging’ on 19 July 2017 in Bandar Seri Begawan. Jointly organized with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT), the Energy and Industry Department of Prime Minister’s Office (EIDPMO), as well as the Darussalam Enterprise (DARe), the Workshop seeks to enhance competitiveness of Bruneian food MSMEs by introducing smart technologies and to further strengthen business partnership between Brunei and Korea.

Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that, “Trade and commercial ties between Brunei and Korea have become increasingly intimate over the last decade. However, business cooperation in food industry has remained relatively unexplored, offering great opportunities for the two countries to explore closer business partnership. Also, Korean experts can contribute to enhancing competitiveness of Bruneian food MSMEs by sharing their expertise on food packaging and smart farming technology. I hope this Workshop would provide a platform for the Bruneian and Korean businessmen to find new opportunities and strengthen a mutually beneficial partnership.”

On 19 July, the Trade Facilitation Workshop will be held at International Convention Center (ICC) with an aim to share expertise and good practices of leading Korean food companies such as CJ and Pulmuone. They will give presentations on the themes of ‘Overview of Food Industry in Korea: Sourcing Trends and Procedures of Seafood Products’, ‘Purchasing Trends and Import Procedures of Processed Food Products’, ‘Introducing Smart Technology in Agribusinesses’, ‘Strategy for Accessing Korean Market for Brunei Halal Food Products’, and ‘Packaging Technology of Korean Food Products & Design Trends’. Approximately 100 business representatives from local MSMEs are anticipated to attend the Workshop.

Also, the representatives from Korean food companies will explore possible areas of cooperation with local players through one-on-one business meetings in the afternoon. They will also be able to gain up-to-date information of current development of food industry through briefings by Brunei government officials and business representatives. With the growing interests of Korean food companies in halal market in the Southeast Asian region, the briefing session is expected to provide the Korean delegation with specific information on halal certificate and relevant procedures.
