Workshop for Korea-Thai Partnership 4.0: IoT Sector Cooperation

- ASEAN-Korea Centre to organize the Trade Facilitation Workshop for Thai MSMEs (20-23 June, Bangkok, Thailand) -

Bangkok, Thailand - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Young-sun) will organize the Trade Facilitation Workshop for Thai MSMEs, entitled ‘Enhancing Competitiveness of Thai Internet of Things (IoT) Industry’ on 20-23 June 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand. Jointly organized with the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) of Thailand and the Korea IoT Association, the Workshop seeks to enhance competitiveness of Thai MSMEs through utilization of IoT platforms and devices and foster business partnership between Thailand and Korea in the digital era.

Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that, “To propel Thailand towards a value-based economy, the Thai government adopted the “Thailand 4.0” initiative as a new economic model. Thailand also developed the National Digital Economy Master Plan (2016-2020) that points out focus areas to drive digitalization of its economy. These initiatives put a particular emphasis on boosting economic growth by stimulating innovative and technology-based industries. To achieve this, Thailand seeks to further enhance the competitiveness of its MSMEs so that they can reap the full benefits of new trade opportunities in the global digital economy. Therefore, I hope this Workshop provides a platform for Thailand and Korea to develop valuable networks and to work together towards value co-creation.”

On 22 June, the Trade Facilitation Workshop will be held at the DITP in Bangkok with an aim to share expertise and good practices of leading Korean IoT companies. Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre and Noh Kwang-il, Korean Ambassador to Thailand, together with high-ranking officials from the DITP, are attending the opening ceremony to deliver remarks. Following the ceremony, representatives from leading Korean IoT companies will give presentations on the themes of ‘Converging IoT Devices and Platforms for Business Success’, ‘Utilizing IoT Platforms for Value-added Business Models’, ‘Industrial IoT and Smart Factory’, ‘Korea’s IoT Industry and Product Development Cases of Korea’, and ‘Industrial Trends and Policy Directions for IoT Development’.

Also, the representatives from Korean IoT companies will explore possible areas of cooperation with Thai businesses through one-on-one business meetings in the afternoon. They will also be able to gain up-to-date information of current development in the IoT industry in Thailand through briefing by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency on 20 June and industrial visits on 21 June, respectively. Furthermore, the ASEAN-Korea Centre will host a roundtable dinner with Korean companies operating their businesses in Thailand, which will provide a networking opportunity for the delegation with Korean companies in Thailand.
