Over 2 thousand photos submitted for the ASEAN Culture and Tourism Photo Contest

- Photos on nature, culture, culinary, and people of ASEAN submitted from 10 ASEAN countries and Korea -
- 55 Winning photo entries to be exhibited from June to August in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, Korea -


Seoul, Korea - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Young-sun) organized the ASEAN Culture and Tourism Photo Contest to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN and the ASEAN-ROK Cultural Exchange Year from 7 March to 23 April. A total of 2,125 photo entries, 1,034 from the 10 ASEAN Member States and 1,055 entries from Korea, were received. The evaluation committee, composed of four external experts in the relevant field, as well as embassies and tourism organizations of 7 ASEAN countries that offer Special Country Awards selected 1 winner for the 1st prize, 2 winners for the 2nd prizes, 8 winners for the Special Country Awards. Winners will be given prizes, which includes 12 round-trip flight tickets, 4 iPad Mini, and 44 gift cards.

 

The 1st prize was bagged by Naing Tun Latt from Myanmar. In his photo entitled Water Festival, he captured a lively scene of Myanmar people playing with water during the annual Thingyan Festival. One of the two 2nd prize winners, Kyaw Kyaw Winn who is also from Myanmar captured a breathtaking photo of Taw Kyal Waterfall located in Shan State of Myanmar. The other 2nd prize winner, Allan Jay A. Quesada from the Philippines, submitted an image of innocent children of Tibiao in the Philippines, enjoying the Kawa warm bath that is becoming a tourist attraction in the country. A total of 44 photos were selected for the 3rd prize. These photos reveal natural and cultural wonders as well as the wonderful people of ASEAN. Furthermore, 8 entries illustrating the beauty and charm of Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand won the Special Country Awards. 

 

The Awarding Ceremony of the Photo Contest will be held on 2 June 2017 at COEX, Seoul, Korea where the Korea World Travel Fair (KOTFA), the largest international travel fair in Korea. Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre, as well as Ambassadors of Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand are expected to attend the event to present the awards to the winners.

 

55 winning entries will be exhibited in Seoul and Gyenggi province from June to August 2017 as follows: 

- 1-4 June 2017: Hall A, COEX, Seoul, Korea 

- 15 June – 2 July 2017: Ansan Arts Center, Gyeonggi Province

- 4-31 July 2017: Seoul Metropolitan Library, Seoul

- 1-31 August 2017: ASEAN Hall, ASEAN-Korea Centre, Seoul
