Korean experts to share knowledge and expertise with Indonesian food MSMEs

- ASEAN-Korea Centre to organize the Trade Facilitation Workshop for Indonesian Food MSMEs on 4 and 6 April 2017 in Jakarta and Makassar, Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Young-sun) will organize the Trade Facilitation Workshop for Indonesian Food MSMEs in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia, on 4 and 6 April in Jakarta and Makassar, respectively. The Workshop aims to support food MSMEs in Indonesia to enhance competitiveness and gain further access to the Korean market. Over 200 participants from the local MSMEs are expected to attend the Workshop.

Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that, “The food and beverage sector is the largest subsector of Indonesia’s manufacturing industry, accounting for around one-quarter of total manufacturing value of the country. Recognizing the importance of the food industry, the Indonesian government designated the industry as one of the 10 priority industry groups for accelerated development in the Master Plan of National Industry Development 2015-2035. I hope this Workshop will contribute to development of the Indonesian food industry, as well as facilitating business cooperation between Indonesia and Korea.”

The Workshop in Jakarta will be held as part of the Indonesia-Korea Business Forum, jointly organized by the ASEAN-Korea Centre and the Korea International Trade Association. The Forum features various other programs such as Indonesia-Korea Cooperation on E-Commerce and 1:1 Biz Meetings. Secretary General Kim Young-sun, Yang Mulia Ibu Arlinda, Director General of the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia, Kim In-ho, Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, Cho Tai-young, Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, and other distinguished guests will attend the opening ceremony. Also, Korean food experts will introduce sourcing trends, branding and marketing strategies, logistics system, as well as up-to-date packaging design and technology to business representatives from the Indonesian food MSMEs. The Workshop will also be held in Makassar, co-hosted with Bank Mandiri, the largest bank in the country, which shows keen interest from the Indonesian side in cooperation with Korea.

The ASEAN-Korea Centre has carried out capacity building programs for ASEAN MSMEs, which account for 98% of business establishments in the region. From this year, the ASEAN-Korea Centre develops its capacity building program, formerly referred as the Product Development Workshop, into the Trade Facilitation Workshop which covers wider areas that are important for acceleration of trade, such as utilization of ASEAN-Korea FTA. This Workshop is anticipated to facilitate ASEAN-Korea economic cooperation and contribute to mutually beneficial partnership between ASEAN and Korea.
