Korean businessmen tap into cosmetics and smart manufacturing sectors of Malaysia
- Investment Mission and Product Development Programs in Malaysia (20-24 February, Kuala Lumpur) -
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Young-sun) will organize two investment and trade promotion programs in Malaysia from 20 to 24 February 2017. The Investment and Market Research Mission, jointly organized with the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA), aims to introduce investment opportunities in Malaysia’s smart manufacturing sector to potential Korean investors. The Product Development Workshop, co-organized with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), will also be held to support local cosmetic SMEs to enhance their competiveness.
Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre, noted that “based upon the demands and needs of Malaysian counterpart, the Centre is organizing its programs for the most important sectors in Malaysia, cosmetics and smart manufacturing. Recognizing the importance of nurturing high technology, the Malaysian government recently introduced new incentives for companies adopting robotics and automation in their production lines. In line with this, Korean delegation in the relevant fields will explore investment opportunities and share experiences. Furthermore, while the country is a fast-growing market for Korean cosmetic brands, Malaysian brands are also expanding their presence in the global market. Through the Product Development Workshop, K-Beauty experts will share their expertise and know-how to enhance capacity of local SMEs in the sector. I hope these efforts would enhance economic cooperation and mutually beneficial partnership between Malaysia and Korea.”
The Investment and Market Research Mission consists of briefings on the latest investment environment and opportunities in Malaysia’s smart manufacturing sector, site visits, and one-on-one business meetings. On 21 February, the Seminar on Business Opportunities in Malaysia’s Smart Manufacturing will be held at MIDA, Malaysia. Representatives from 7 Korean companies in industrial robots and automation sectors will be briefed by Malaysian government official on investment policies and incentives, which will be followed by presentations on Korea’s smart manufacturing industry by an expert from the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement (KIRIA) and on the Malaysian perspective on smart manufacturing by a representative from the Malaysian Society for Engineering and Technology (MySET). Korean delegation will also visit Technology Park, a science park for knowledge-based industries development of the country and a local company providing integrated automated solutions for high-tech industries.
Also, the Product Development Workshop will provide a two-day training for local cosmetic SMEs in terms of marketing, branding, and packaging. On 22-23 February, experts from leading Korean cosmetic companies and the Korea Cosmetic Association will give lectures on Korean cosmetic industries, branding, packaging, and marketing strategies to approximately 80 representatives from local cosmetic companies. Simulation exercises will also be conducted, where participants will be introduced to the key features of packaging development process while being guided by highly experienced experts.
